New blogger/athlete/ambassador: Nicola Gildersleeve

October 6, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

I first off want to say how tremendously excited I am to be an Elevate Me athlete/ambassador. Not only have I been using Elevate Me energy bars as fuel for years now, I have also had the pleasure of knowing the owner’s, Trish and Earl Ellingson.

I first discovered Elevate Me organic energy bars through a friend I worked with at North Shore Athletics. He was diagnosed with Celiac disease a few years ago and had to change his diet drastically. One of the things he was able to fuel himself on were Elevate Me health bars. Besides being Gluten-Free they are packed with whey protein, making them the perfect snack on the go for a hungry athlete. I have experimented with a lot of different energy bars and Elevate Me protein bars are THE BEST! My favorite is the Acai Berry Bar.

Background:

I grew up playing team sports, mainly soccer and basketball. After high school I went on to play Varsity Basketball at Capilano College for 2 years. It was during these years that I discovered my passion for running. After College, I trained for my first marathon and I absolutely fell in love with the sport. I went on to work at North Shore Athletics and a co-worker introduced me to Ultramarathon running. Since then, I haven’t looked back and have run distances such as 50km, 50 miles, and 100km. I hope to run my first 100 miler in 2010! Many of the ultramararthon’s I have done are on the trails. I love spending time running in nature and it is definitely where I feel most at ease.  There is something magical about running in the trees listening to the sounds of the river flowing along side the trail.

After Capilano College I transferred to U.B.C to finish my Human Kinetics Degree. I ran on the track and field/cross country team for 2 years. I currently work as a Personal Trainer and run coach in North Vancouver. I work with a wide variety of clientele who have their own individual goals.  Some people want to lose weight, improve core strength, learn to run, and/or gain strength and improve balance and flexibility. I am also a Certified Lactate Threshold Tester through F.a.C.T Canada. This certification allows me to measure your current level of fitness and provide training recommendation based on your own personal physiology.

I am very passionate about health and fitness and I am proud to support and promote a health product I believe in.

Whey Protein Bars and Active Lifestyle Contest

September 22, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Hi, this is Coreylee here. I’ve managed to make it though my first few months and things are heating up. That being said summer is almost over and the nights are getting cooler. This is perfect weather for evening walks and trail running.

But are you getting enough protein?

Protein is the building block of muscle, so you’re protein requirements will increase with any form of training. A lack of protein will result in muscles loss, a weaker immune system, slower recovery time and less energy.

Try this simple calculator: The recommended daily allowance (RDA) of protein is 0.36 grams per pound of body weight or 56 grams of protein a day for the average male and 46 grams for the average female. For people with an active lifestyle the protein requirements jump to 1.7 grams of protein per kilo of bodyweight. If you want to build muscle as fast as possible, you will need at least 2.5 grams of protein per kilo of bodyweight.

Why Whey?

Whey protein contains amino acids such as leucine which increases protein synthesis and speeds up recovery time. Studies have also shown that whey protein increases cellular glutathione levels. Glutathione is an antioxidant that combats free radicals in the body and helps reduce the risk cancer.

Now for the fun stuff!

Here at Elevate Me! We are running a contest for the best Elevate Me! picture. The first 3 people to send in a picture of you and your Elevate Me! bar doing any of the fantastic sports you enjoy, be it yoga, running or simply walking in Lynn Canyon will receive a box of Elevate Me! bars.

Start sending in those awesome pictures now!!

Hi, this is Coreylee, the new marketing manager here at Elevate Me! We would like to announce our Back to School Sale which is on now!

For just a few days save $2.00 per box of bars as we welcome you back to school and work!

This is a great time to start planning those lunches and getting organized as we head into September.

The brain is a hungry organ that cannot function at optimal levels without the proper fuels. To keep the brain functioning at top performance, diets packed with brain boosting essential fatty acids and good quality proteins are a must! Next to water, protein makes up most of the weight of our bodies. Muscles, organs, hair, nails and ligaments are all composed of protein, so it’s obvious why protein is an important part of the diet.

This is your chance to try a flavour you haven’t tried before or to stock up on the ones you love. Keep these bars in your car, your gym bag and at your desk and next time you are hungry and need a snack, do something healthy for yourself and your brain and reach for a low fat, high fibre Elevate Me protein bar!

Enjoy!

ElevateME Protein Bars – Update

August 4, 2009 by admin · 1 Comment

It’s been awhile, so busy my apologies. Let’s see, we hired a great new Marketing Manager, Coreylee has joined the team and we’re thrilled and excited to welcome her to the team. She has a pretty big job ahead, helping us grow our Elevate Me! bars to feed more hungry athletes, students, employees, employers, kids, teens and well you get the idea. We’re going to be launching some swag so I’ve had a few emails for stuff like t-shirts but keep ‘em coming and if we do it you get the first one produced.

We just signed on with Canadian Sports Centre Pacific so we will be working closely with hundreds of professional and Olympic caliber athletes to fuel their incredibly arduous training, with the Olympics here in a few months the timing is perfect. We’ve already sold tons of bars to the snowboarders, speedskaters, lugers, ski jumpers etc., Now we just need to share our bars with all the pro sports teams out there, once they try them they’re hooked, so that helps.

We’re offering some guerrilla freebies away so let’s start now: the first 3 people to email me at info@prosnack.com and mention the codephrase “Flumoxed by Calamity” will get a free mix box sent in the mail, no strings…offer good now until Aug 7th 2009….keep on enjoying the ridiculous summer heat.

in GOOD health,
Earl Ellingson
Chief ELEVATE ME! Officer

ElevateME Energy Bars – Economics

June 17, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Summer’s about here now and the protein bar industry keeps keeping on. This recession hasn’t affected our energy bar per se, foods are pretty protected from the dips and valleys of economics I guess.

We’ve heard that organics are hurt somewhat as the price is higher and I can believe that. Our unique flavors like the goji berry, acai, matcha and blueberry keep our awesome clients interested. I think its because we’re gluten free and the only simple whey protein bar in the whole wide world too that helps.

In fact, we’re trying to hire our first real bona fide “white collar” employee to push our marketing and sales growth. So if you know anyone with, say, great contacts at Whole Foods USA then send them to me. Of course they should have an MBA and years of experience in the health food industry too. And they have to be super fit and filled with pure energy! And of course we want them to live in Vancouver or move up here too. We’re upgrading our offices and production area to make the bars as we’re bursting at the seams where we are. Calling all experts with nutrition, breakfast and granola bars. We want to hear from you. Once we solidify that stuff and our bigger plant then its time for new flavors and products that will be excellent in quality and nutrition and real whole fruits and nuts and seeds and protein of course.

Elevate Me Energy Bars – Growth

June 2, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

Wow 5 months of the year are done, when you do this for awhile everything is measured in yearly quarters and we’re almost done the second one.

Right now we’re balancing our growing family with growing the company. Our staff has been fantastic, especially Kurt, as we have adapted to balancing family and business.

So now we are planning to get back into the business mind-set with some big adventures: new staff to promote our beloved bar, new products that will be creative and excellent, and a new facility, because we’re busting at the seams in our current 2 properties. We need one big one!

Stay tuned for the next Elevate Me! Energy Bars whatever, its going to be good.

Bars are Food Review: Elevate Me! Espresso Cocoa Crunch

May 10, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

We sent our bars in to barsarefood.com for a review and of the seven flavors they chose our “Espresso Cocoa Crunch”. Seems they liked the flavor overall but not the packaging so much, should we tell them that we designed it ourselves in photoshop?

Review:

Billed as “The world’s simplest protein & fruit energy bar”, the flavor of this bar certainly lives up to this intention. Blending whey protein isolate, dates, organic raisins, apples, almonds, cranberries, cocoa, and coffee beans, the product has a very “raw” and homemade flavor to it. It has a dry but chewy consistency, with pleasant notes of dried fruit and nuts, followed by decent note of cocoa and a hint of coffee to the finish. All in all, it’s a very pleasant and satisfying bar to eat. Nutritionally, this bar has 230 calories, 6g of fiber, and 16g of protein, which is certainly enough substance for us. That leaves us with the packaging, which is the largest area for improvement. Specifically, there’s something that’s unappealing about the design, especially compared to the better designs of other players in the category. We’d probably say the same for the name, which sounds like something that’s more appropriate for a supplement product. Overall, very enjoyable flavor and nutrition, but needs work on the packaging.
